It all started with a boat ride on Torch River in 1999 – from White Water Township Park in Elk Rapids to Torch Lake in our 18’ SeaRay bow rider, with 4 kids anxious to go fast!  We came upon what was then “The Sandbar Shop”, and we fell in love!  We knew this place had potential for what was a distant dream of ours – to someday own a party store.  Paul’s family owned a party store when he was growing up, and Leslie is from Charlevoix and always wanted to move back “Up North”.  This was a perfect combination for both dreams!  Thus started an 8-year patient wait for all of this to happen.  Leslie used a picture of The Sandbar Shop as her screen saver on her computer for 8 years until we found out it was for sale again. We talked to the children, who were all in high school, about moving to Torch Lake – that was a big fat NO! They would not move while they were in high school! So, we put that dream away and went on with our lives.  When the kids all graduated, we tried to buy The Sandbar Shop, but that didn’t work out because of issues with the title.  Finally, in 2008, we found that it was going up for Auction in March.  We did our research regarding auctions and we ended up with the winning bid! We returned to Lansing on a Friday and Paul retired as Deputy Chief of Delta Township Fire the following Monday! Now we are livin’ the Dream on Torch Lake! Paul proudly wears his Pizza Boy T-shirt all summer while delivering pizza to the boats on the sandbar!
